Buying on Next Up

Buyer protection

What you can count on every time you buy a card, first sale or resale. This is the plain version; the Terms are the full one.

  1. You see the full price before you pay

The athlete sets the price of a new card, and the seller sets the price of a resale. A 6% marketplace service fee is added on top, and checkout shows the total before you pay.

  2. Nothing is charged unless you choose it

Following, saving a card and Remind me are free. On resale, a bid or an offer costs nothing unless it wins and you then pay for it.

  3. Every copy is numbered

Each copy of a card has its own number, and each number belongs to one person. A card never sells more copies than its edition size. Every first sale has a closing date, shown before you buy, and when it closes the copies nobody bought are retired for good, so the edition size becomes the number sold.

  4. A fair shot at a drop

On a card's first sale, one person can buy at most 5 copies, so one buyer can't take a whole drop.

  5. If a purchase fails, you get your money back

Cards are digital goods, so a completed purchase is final, like a concert ticket. If a purchase fails partway, so that you were charged and the card never reached you, we refund it.

  6. The card is yours

Your card is held in your own collection, secured with a passkey, not in an account we control. Every sale pays each party directly in the same step; Next Up never holds your money.

  7. Auctions and offers play fair

Nobody can bid on or make an offer for their own card. If you win an auction you have 24 hours to pay. If a winner doesn't pay, the card is offered to the next highest bidder, up to 2 more bidders, and a fixed-price card that was held but not paid for goes back on sale.

  8. Your cards outlast us

The contract that holds the cards has a sunset clause. If Next Up ever stops running, transfers open after a set waiting period and every holder can move their cards anywhere. Nobody, including us, can switch that off.

  9. Something wrong? Tell us

Use "Report this page" at the bottom of any athlete page, or email us. We look at every report within a day.

Cards are collectibles. Their resale prices are set by the people selling them, and nobody, including Next Up, can promise what a card will sell for.

This page is a summary. The Terms are the agreement and govern if anything here differs.
